1st cycle, 4 years, 8 semesters, 240 ECTS-credits

Field- biology - ecology/environmental sciences

The study program in ecology lasts for 4 years (8 semesters) with 3600 classes of theory and practice, for which the student acquires 240 credits. The professional title after the termination of the first cycle of studies and defense of graduate thesis is Bachelor of Science in Biology - Ecology (B.Sci.Biol.Ecol.) Thus study at bachelor's level and the programme is designed to meet the level VII/2 and qualification descriptors in full. The study programme provides continuation of education on higher level i.e. postgraduate studies (specialization or masters studies) in different areas of biology, ecology and environmental sciences.

- Possesses knowledge of vast number of biological sciences as basis for understanding ecology and environmental sciences.
- Shows deep understanding of ecological sciences: functioning of natural and anthropogenic ecosystems, nutrients cycling in the biosphere, principle of environmental protection and ecological legislation.
Applying knowledge and understanding - Acquires skills and experience for studying on natural ecosystems functioning.
- Implementation of acquired knowledge in identifying of the causes for disturbance in natural ecosystems and pollution of the environment.
- Skills for managements, conservation and protection of the environment, nature and biodiversity, sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems and landscape planning,
- Skills of independent environmental (and nature) impact assessment of certain investment programs.
- The knowledge can be applied in educational process, research institutions, industry, laboratories for environmental quality control, implementation of environmental law.
Making judgment - Demonstrates skills for realization of complex ecological research and drawing of relevant conclusions.
- Independent judgment for the state of the environment and nature as well as finding solutions and recommendations.
- Shows understanding of the legal system for the protection of the environment and nature in the Republic of Macedonia and skills for assessment of the effectiveness of the implementation of legal measures.
Communication skills - Skills for team work and active collaboration with other team members by sharing of responsibilities and tasks.
- Skills for communication with public, governmental stakeholders (ministries, research centers, educational organizations) and the business sector.
- Skills for public presentation of conclusions, facts and results of the research as well as environmental state and problems.
- Effective participation in multidisciplinary teams concerning the environment.
- Responsibility for individual and team results, initiation and management of projects.
Learning skills - Continuously follows the latest achievements in biology and biological education through seminars, conferences, training courses, etc.
