Undergraduate studies in Ecology
Duration: 4 years, 8 semesters (240 ECTS: 60/year; 30/ semester)
Professional title: Graduated ecologist (Bachelor's degree); Bachelor of Science in Ecology (BSc. Ecol.)
The study program for ecology consists of 4 years (8 semesters) giving students 240 credits. The study program is an academic degree. The professional title after completing the first cycle of studies and defending the diploma topic is Bachelor of Science (Bachelor of Ecology).
These undergraduate studies and the program are organized to acquire a VII / 1 degree of education and a complete fulfillment of the qualification descriptors. The study program provides an opportunity for further continuous education at a higher level of study. Namely, the Institute of Biology offers higher (postgraduate) level of ecology studies that broadens the knowledge in various fields of ecology and environment, which includes elements of the fundamental, application and development aspects of the ecological processes.
Manner of financing
Candidates are enrolled as full-time students financed by the state and full-time students by co-financing the studies at the Institute of Biology.
Enrollment criteria
The conditions and the criteria for enrollment of students for studies at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" are prescribed by the University Rectorate in accordance with the legal regulations and recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The right to enroll in undergraduate studies (undergraduate university and professional studies) at the Institute of Biology have candidates who have passed state or international matriculation.
The rights to enroll in the undergraduate studies at the Institute of Biology also have candidates who have passed a school matriculation in gymnasium or a final exam after completed vocational secondary education with four-year duration.
The rights to enroll in the undergraduate studies also have candidates with completed four-year secondary education in the previous school years (before the academic year 2007/2008) which were not obligated with the state matriculation.
Candidates who have completed high or post-secondary education at related faculties can enroll at the undergraduate studies at the Institute of Biology. Suitability is determined by the Institute of Biology and officiated by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Method for choosing subjects
Within the study program students register all the compulsory subjects. Thirty percent of the elective subjects are selected by the students from the list of elective subjects at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Annex 3.2). The remaining ten percent of the elective subjects can be chosen from the list of accredited subjects from the unit and / or from the units of UKIM. Students from one study program can also choose compulsory subjects from other study programs as an elective subject.
