One of the most significant achievements of the Institute of Biology was the full support of the students’ initiative for the creation of a research society of the students of biology in 1994. The Biology Students’ Research Society (BSRS) is a youth research organization that is dedicated to the education of the students and its members in the field of biology as well as to the study of the biodiversity of the Republic of Macedonia.
For the successful achievement of the goals, the activities in the society are divided into several sections: algological, floristic, mycological, arachnological, entomological, herpetological, ornithological, mammalogical and biochemical-physiological. During the last 10 years, BSRS successfully realized many research actions and the results of these activities were published in the Bulletin of the Biology Students’ Research Society.
The BSRS’s main goal of education of the students is accomplished mainly through the organization of research projects. So far, 22 research projects have been organized and implemented with the involvement of more than 300 students from the Institute of Biology, as well as students from related institutes at universities from the Balkans and beyond.
