Postgraduate (second cycle) Master’s studies in Biology Education

Duration: 1 year (2 semesters).

Total number of credit points (ECTS): 60 (60/year; 30/semester).

Professional title after completing the studies:  Master of Biology Education (MS. Boil. edu.).

Upon completion of the study program, students acquire integrated knowledge suitable for scientific and research work in the fields of biology and education of biology. The study program provides an opportunity for further education at a higher level i.e. third cycle studies (doctoral studies) in various fields of biology and related scientific disciplines.

Language of instruction: Macedonian.

Fees and costs: The tuition fee is 2000 € (in MKD counter value). This amount includes the costs for the procedure of master's thesis defense.

Enrollment criteria

The conditions and criteria for admission of students at the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" are prescribed by the University Rectorate in accordance with the legal regulations and recommendations by the Ministry of Education and Science. The eligible candidate should have completed undergraduate (first cycle) studies with a minimum of 240 ECTS points at a recognized higher education institution in the Republic of Macedonia or holds a verified diploma issued by a university outside the country. Only candidates who have completed the first cycle of studies with an average mark above 8,00 are eligible to enroll. Candidates with an average of under 8,00 can enroll in a second cycle of studies at the Institute of Biology only if they have published at least two (2) scientific papers in the relevant field, in a scientific journal in which the papers are subject to peer review. Apart from candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies at the Institute of Biology, candidates who have completed their studies in chemistry-analytical biochemistry, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, agriculture (some study programs), forestry (some study programs) and other related disciplines are also eligible to apply to this postgraduate program.

The same provisions apply to foreign nationals.

Method of selection of elective subjects

Within this study program, students enroll all mandatory courses. Forty percent of the elective subjects (2 in total) are selected from ‘The Biology Education list’ and the remaining twenty percent of the elective subjects (a total of 1) the students can choose from the list ‘The university list’ of accredited courses at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.
