Teaching Assistant M.Sc. Sara Vurmeska Cvetanoska

Biography

Assist. M.Sc. Sara Vurmeska Cvetanoska was born on January 28, 1995, in Prilep. She completed her primary education in the village of Krivogashtani, while her secondary education (pharmacy) was completed at the medical high school “Gjorgje Petrov” in Prilep with excellent results.

In the academic year 2013/14, she enrolled in Biology studies – teaching track at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje. She graduated in 2018 by defending her bachelor’s thesis titled “Floristic Survey of the Surroundings of the Village of Krivogashtani.” She graduated as one of the top students at the Institute of Biology with a GPA of 9.31.

In the academic year 2018/19, she enrolled in second-cycle (master’s) studies in Ecology and Biosystematics – Biosystematics module at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje. In 2024, she completed her master’s studies by defending her thesis titled “Syntaxonomic Research of Herbaceous Vegetation in the Natural Monument ‘Markovi Kuli’,” thereby earning the title Master of Biosystematics. In 2025, she began her phD studies at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Renata Kjushterevska.

Immediately after graduating, she was engaged as a demonstrator at the Department of Systematics and Phylogeny of Higher Plants and Phytogeography with Phytocoenology. She is involved in conducting practical classes for undergraduate students in the subjects: Systematics of Higher Plants, Cormophyta, Plant Anatomy and Morphology, Botany, Phytogeography with Phytocoenology, Phytocoenology with Vegetation of Macedonia, Biodiversity, and Biogeography. She is also involved in the restoration and maintenance of the herbarium collection of the Macedonian National Herbarium at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje.

As a project leader, she has so far been involved in two projects, while as a young researcher in flora, vegetation, and habitats, she has participated in 24 projects.

As a member of the Research Society of Biology Students, she participated as an organizer of the Congress of Ecologists (Ohrid, October 19–22, 2016). She has also actively participated in the Balkan Botanical Congress (Novi Sad, September 10–14, 2018), the Congress of Ecologists (Ohrid, October 15–18, 2022), the 40th Meeting of the East Alpine and Dinaric Society for Vegetation Ecology (Banja Luka, June 2024), and the Croatian Botanical Congress (Osijek, September 2025), where she appeared as an author of poster and oral presentations. She is the first author of two scientific papers and a co-author of nine scientific papers.

Key qualifications: Botany, flora and vegetation; young expert in numerous projects in the field of flora, vegetation, and habitats, as well as monitoring of plant species and habitats.
