Marija Chobanova (b. 1994, Skopje) is a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Biology, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, where she is actively engaged in teaching and researcha ctivities in the fields of ecology, nature conservation and environmental protection. She graduated in 2019 and completed her Master’s studies in 2021, focusing on the ecology of high-mountain peatlands. Since 2022, she has been enrolled in doctoral studies at the same institute.
Her scientific interests are focused on ecosystem ecology, with a particular emphasis on wetland ecosystems. Her research focuses on biomass and productivity, soil and hydrological characteristics,water chemistry, as well as the impacts of anthropogenic factors and conservation aspects. In addition, she is actively involved in the assessment of ecosystem services and their application in nature conservation and management of natural resources.She is the author and co-author of several scientific papers published in international and national journals, as well as numerous technical and scientific reports. She has presented her research at several scientific conferences and has extensive experience in the implementation of national and international projects related to biodiversity, nature conservation, ecosystem monitoring and valorization studies.
Marija has been involved in teaching activities since 2019, contributing to practical and field-based instruction in several ecology-related courses, as well as providing mentorship and support to students in the preparation of research projects, undergraduate and Master’s theses. In addition to her academic work, she is actively engaged in several national and international organizations in the fields of wetlands, youth and biodiversity, where she holds coordination and leadership roles. Her activities include capacity building, science communication and bridging science with policy and decision-making processes related to nature conservation.
