“Land Degradation Neutrality” As a result of the current negative trends in land degradation, our communities and ecosystems are less able to ensure food and water security, generate livable incomes, and cope with the impacts of climate change. Many livelihoods in the developing world are closely linked to the productivity of the land, which in turn defines its capacity for climate mitigation and adaptation. It is recognize the need for immediate climate action which means that sustainable land management and restoration must be front and center on both of the global agendas.” |

“Creating Shore-zone Functionality Index for Prespa, Ohrid and Skadar lake” SFI method lies in the ability of obtaining a synthetic value of lake shorezone functionality. The SFI approach permits to complete the study of the internal lake’s dynamics, often modified for production or recreational-tourism purposes. A lake’ shorezone management based on the concepts of its functionality allows to reconcile the environment protection with the human use of the lake, helping an eco-sustainable city planning and watershed management. Lake managers and stakeholders can use these results for a sustainable ecosystem-based watershed management. |

“Integrated Water Resources Management at Dojran Lake” Macedonia The “Integrated Water Resources Management at Dojran Lake” project proposes to strengthen links between the international research community and local policy-makers to enhance the resilience of the system through promotion of sustainable agricultural and fishery practices and related governance and institutional systems. By analysing and understanding the biophysical (availability of water, aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems), socio-economic (demography, land-use) and institutional (agricultural and environmental policies, governance systems, stakeholders roles) dimensions of integrated water resource management, we would identify innovative practices and tools for efficient use of water resources (agriculture and fishery) and the conservation and valorisation of biodiversity. |

“Comparison of secondary shrub vegetation in continental and Mediterranean parts of the Balcan Peninsula.” (bilateral project between Macedonia and Slovenija, Ministry of Science and technology of Slovenia, Ministry of Science of Macedonia)
The project was tested two areas. The first was situated in the area under the Mediterranean influence with evergreen vegetation classified within the order Pistatio lentisci-Rhamnetalia alaterni and the order Quercetalia ilicis. Tradicionally it is termed macchia (Nord Greece). The second testing area was situated in the central part of the Balkans under influence of the continental climate (Republic of Macedonia). The vegetation is deciduous here, classified with the classis Quercetae pubescentis. Tradicionally it is termed sibljak. The project was realized in Macedonia and northern Greece, according to the methodology of Braun-Blanquet (1964). In the coastal region in schrub communities there appear more evergreen plants species than in the continental one, since they gradually disappear towards the continent. At the same time also plant traits change are correlate with a local climate. Also, the syntaxonomical scheme of vegetation was revised. |
